Allá por el mes de Junio, y un poco antes de la que fue su primera gira por Inglaterra, tuvimos la oportunidad de reunirnos con Santa Cruz y charlar un rato con Arttu y Johnny, lideres y fundadores del grupo. Con ellos nos echamos unas risas, y demostraron ser tan efervescentes dentro como fuera del escenario.

Para todos aquellos que todavía no conocen a Santa Cruz, ¿podéis presentaros y contarnos un poco como y de quién fue la idea de crear el grupo?
Arttu: Bueno… Johnny y yo nos conocimos en 2006, aunque no encajamos hasta un año después, cuando nos volvimos a encontrar en 2007. Johnny apareció con una camiseta de W.A.S.P., el pelo mucho más largo, y me quedé como… ¿pero qué coño?, ¿es el mismo tío?. Entonces lo escuché tocar y fue ¡mierda, tenemos que hacer algo juntos!. Tenemos las mismas influencias, como las bandas de hard rock de los 80 a las que queremos sonar, así que decidimos juntarnos en 2007, ahí escribimos también algunas canciones. En su momento teníamos también un batería y un bajista, aunque no estaban del todo involucrados.
Johnny: No encajaban.
Arttu: (Asiente) Y aquel batería ahora mismo canta en un grupo que se llama Face of God, y…
Johnny: Ensayamos en el mismo sitio, así que…
Arttu: Escribimos algunas canciones en el 2007 y subimos un par de temas a MySpace, pero no tuvimos una formación completa hasta más o menos el 2008, cuando entró Middy como bajista, y con él tambén entró Oscar (batería), quien también toca en Face of God. Estuvimos tocando más o menos medio año y entonces encontramos un nuevo batería, no obstante Middy se quedó. Grabamos una demo que se llamó ‘Screawed For Adrenaline’, con cinco o seis pistas, o algo así…

Johnny: Creo que fueron siete…
Arttu: ¡¿7?! [Entusiasmado], bueno, casi un disco!
Johnny: Solo sacamos 22 copias…
Arttu: Sí, de hecho yo mismo imprimí las carátulas…
Johnny: (riéndose) Las pegamos juntos.
Arttu: Me gustaría tener una (copia). (Pensando) Puedo enseñarte la portada, en realidad, ¡tengo aquí la foto!. Mola más de lo que recordaba, solo que ahora estoy más en forma [enseñando la foto]…
Arttu: !Fue como hace seis años!
Johnny: (Sorprendido) ¡Seis años tío!
Tú (Johnny) estás muy diferente y tú (Arttu) estás más menos igual, ¡pareces Bon Jovi!
Arttu: Sí… ¡es por el pelo castaño! Buscaba el look de Bon Jovi, así que…
Johnny: Middy tiene un poco de tripa…
Arttu: Sí, un poco de tripa… es el más delgado (escojone general).
Arttu: Sacamos aquello y entonces en 2009, Tommy… bueno, no siguió con el grupo… Era un buen tío, pero no tenía la dedicación necesaria y no encajaba tampoco. Entonces pensamos en Taz, que tocaba en un grupo de thrash…
¿Thrash?, ¿un poco distinto de lo que hacéis, no?
Arttu: Bueno… más o menos, a todos nos gusta el thrash, que se sale un poco de nuestro estilo, y a él le gustan también Mötley Crüe y cosas así, y supongo que la gente que toca thrash también puede hacer hard rock. Y volviendo a tu pregunta, sacamos dos EP’s. (En ese momento se da cuenta de lo que se han enrollado en la primera pregunta) Y… ¡¡Éso es la primera pregunta!!
Johnny: (cachondeándose) Un cuarto de hora después…
¿Podríais contarnos algunas de las cosas buenas y malas que os han pasado durante este tiempo? ¿Alguna anécdota curiosa?
Johnny: [Recordando] ¡Perdimos todas los concursos en los que participamos!…
Arttu: ¡Nunca hemos ganando ni un solo un concurso! ¡Sólo una vez! La única vez fue uno donde tuvimos que tocar en el estadio Apollo, pero hemos estado como en cinco o seis y nunca ganamos, así que éso sería lo peor probablemente. Y lo mejor son la mayoría de cosas que nos han pasado hasta este momento, haber estado juntos durante seis años y grabar nuestro primer álbum. No tuvimos ningún éxito de la noche a la mañana, tocamos sin parar y fue surgiendo todo. No tuvimos ningún éxito de la noche a la mañana, tocamos sin parar y fue surgiendo todo. Creo que si haces algo en lo que crees, y lo haces bien, tarde o temprano te pasan cosas buenas.
No puedo estar más de acuerdo… Y durante las pasadas semanas te he visto (Arttu) en conciertos acústicos con otros músicos como Vince, cantante de White Flame, y me ha recordado que hace unos dos años teníais algo conocido como Santa Cruz Rock Nights, donde invitabais a tocar con vosotros a otros músicos. ¿Todavía hacéis esto? ¿Qué podéis contarnos sobre ello?
Arttu: No, ya no lo hacemos. Fue sólo porque éramos la banda residente en On the Rocks, querían hacer algo parecido a Steel Panther en Los Angeles. Simplemente tocábamos nuestras canciones, alguna versión y teníamos un invitado especial cada noche, sucedía dos veces al mes, menos en junio que era una vez a la semana.

No se como decir esto, pero… me siento un poco confusa sobre vuestra discografía…
Arttu: (sorprendido y travieso) ¿Pooor…?
Bueno, quizá confusa no es la palabra… lo que quiero decir es que encontré un disco llamado ‘Another Rush of Adrenaline’, pero vuestro primer EP fue ‘Anthems for the Yound N’ Restless’. ¿Qué es ‘AROA’ entonces?
Arttu: Bueno… ‘Another Rush…’ es básicamente una demo, y creo que ‘Anthems for…’ es similar en esencia, también una demo, pero con mejor calidad, más tipo EP…
En vuestro debut – ‘Screming for Adrenaline’ – incluís varias canciones de ‘Anthems for…’. ¿Por qué no solo canciones nuevas? ¿Qué evolución podemos encontrar?
Arttu: Bueno, la historia es que teníamos aquellas demos grabadas, y la verdad es que siempre tuvimos claro que cuando saliera el disco queríamos que tuviera nuestras mejores canciones, así que utilizamos todo lo que teníamos para completar el álbum, por otra parte también sentíamos que aquellas canciones eran de lo mejor que teníamos, así que quisimos mejorarlas, hacer una versión que sonara mejor de cara a la galería.
‘Let me (Lay My Love On You)’ y ‘Nothing Compares to You’ son mis dos favoritas….
Arttu y Johnny: (saltando y con una gran sonrisa) ¿¡En serio?!
¡Sí! ¿Podríais decirme más sobre la historia que hay detrás y como fue componerlas?
Johnny: ‘Let me (Lay My Love On You)’ es la primera canción que hicimos juntos…
Arttu: ¡Fue hace mucho! Ha cambiado un montón. Estaba en quinto cuando teníamos aquel riff y estribillo parecido al de ‘LM’, la montamos juntos un tiempo después, había una demo de la canción en nuestro MySpace en 2007.
Johnny: Creo que fue la segunda…
Arttu: (Asiente y coincide) Teníamos ‘Keep off The Feeling’ y ‘Let Me (Lay My Love On You)’. Fueron nuestras primeras canciones, pero ‘LM (LMLOY)’ ha cambiado mucho.
Arttu: ¿Cuentas tú lo de ‘Nothing Compares to You’?
Johnny: (Se lo piensa) ¿Puedes hacer tú esta?
Arttu: Grabé algo con el teléfono. Tenía la melodía en la cabeza, y era algo así como el tipo de canción que me recordaba a Arizona, las colinas, esas cosas, como viviendo al borde. Se la enseñé a Johnny y la pasó a ordenador con batería y la hostia, después de eso trabajamos con todo, mi guitarra acústica y mi voz. Creo que intentamos hacer la letra de los coros juntos pero no nos salió. Creo que esta es una de esas canciones que tiene más letra de Johnny que mía, o al 50/50.
Hablando del tema, ¿cómo hacéis a la hora de componer y trabajar juntos?
Johnny: Eso depende mucho… Bueno… Ahora grabamos cosas juntos porque vivimos casi en el mismo sitio y eso ayuda, pero…
Arttu: En mi caso si se me ocurre alguna idea, normalmente canto y toco en acústico, o lo grabo en el iPhone o el ordenador y empiezo a trabajar desde ahí. Johnny suele preparar una demo completa, con caja de ritmos y la hostia. De ahí solemos coger las mejores, y si le falta la melodía o las letras trabajo en ello también.
¿Cómo hacéis entonces para escribir las letras, es todo a medias…?
Arttu: Suelo pasarlas al iPad o al ordenador…
Johnny: Y por lo general cada canción tiene un titulo antes de hacer las letras, así que es más fácil comenzar desde ahí.
Arttu: [De acuerdo] Es más fácil poner primero el título, porque si escribes antes la letra, ¡el título suele dar asco! Por ejemplo, ‘Relentless Renegades’, llegó antes que la letra. Primero fue la linea del estribillo, luego las letras sobre el estribillo… es más sencillo crear una historia a partir de algo.
Tres escuchar vuestro disco y ver vuestros vídeos, no puedo evitar pensar en bandas como Bon Jovi, Skid Row o Guns N’ Roses. ¿Hasta que punto diríais que os han influenciado?
Arttu: Bueno, han sido una gran influencia, especialmente al principio, era el tipo de música que queríamos hacer, pero ahora hemos empezado a crear nuestro propio sonido, añadiendo también elementos de otros estilos. Así que diría que a nivel de influencia son como el núcleo. Cogemos influencias de todas partes, porque ahora mismo ninguno de nosotros nos ponemos a escuchar un disco de Mötley Crüe en casa, a no ser que estemos de fiesta. Escuchamos todo tipo de música.

¿Alguna banda que no sea de hard rock y que sea actual?
Arttu: [Cavilando] John Mayer es una gran influencia para mi, como escritor y guitarrista, es cojonudo. También estoy descubriendo algunas cosas nuevas de rap, aunque por lo general detesto el rap moderno, siempre preferí la vieja escuela, también algunas bandas de pop como Coldplay, son geniales…
Johnny: (Riéndose) No estoy de acuerdo…
Arttu: (Sorprendido) ¿En serio? Creo que son un buen relajante, si quieres desconectar en la oscuridad… Para poner de tranqui no vas a utilizar Slayer…
Volviendo un momento a lo que comentamos antes de los concursos, el Hard Rock Café de Helsinki organizó uno el mes pasado para elegir al grupo que representaría a Finlandia en el mundial. Vosotros participábais, y llegásteis a la final, con Strong Addiction (que ganaron) y Face of God. ¿Cómo fue la experiencia, y qué pensáis de estos dos grupos?
Arttu: ¡Genial! Tocamos en el HRC, nos dieron comida gratis y fue cojonudo. Como ya comentamos, conocemos a Face of God desde hace mucho, sobretodo porque la mayoría de ellos tocaron también en Santa Cruz. También hemos estado compartiendo el mismo sitio de ensayo con Strong Addiction durante un año o dos, así que de algún modo fue como pasarlo bien entre colegas.
Y ahora, hace unos días, tocásteis en Tavastia, que está considerado como uno de los mejores lugares de Helsinki…
Arttu/Johnny: ¡Sí!, ¡mola un huevo!, ¡está muy cerca de aquí!
¿Cómo fue tocar allí? ¿Creéis que a los fans les gusta el nuevo disco?
Arttu: ¡Sí! Desde luego… Y sin comentarios: es brutal. El hecho de haber tocado en el Tavastia por nosotros mismos, y que tanta gente viniera a vernos un jueves por la noche…
Johnny: ¿Estuviste allí?

Por ahora habéis hecho vídeos, una pequeña gira para promocionar el disco y tenéis conciertos programados en Finlandia. ¿Cuál es el siguiente paso?
Johnny: Vamos a ir a Alemania y Reino Unido.
Arttu: Sí, y puede que a España….
Johnny: Y ojalá Japón… (se cachondean chapurreando en japonés).
En Finlandia hay una gran escena, y se ve que todo el mundo se ayuda. ¿Qué pensáis de las nuevas bandas, por ejemplo… Shiraz Lane? No sé si les conocéis, les estuve viendo el mes pasado…
Arttu: ¿Shiraz Lane? Sí… les conozco… creo conozco a alguno del grupo… (pensativo) siii… los conozco, los conozco. El cantante creo que tiene buena voz, en tres o cuatro años van a ser geniales, es un estilo Sebastian Bach, dales unos años y serán la hostia, supongo…
Johnny: ¡Los mejores son Blood Buster!
Arttu: Son de Kuopio y rollo AC/DC, algunos también son hermanos como en Airbourne y AC/DC.
Ok, vosotros tenéis… unos 23 años…
Johnny: ¡21!
Arttu: 21, sí… Y Middy 20.
(Sorprendida) 21 entonces… y, aunque pensamos que adoráis el rock, no podemos creer que sea todo lo que hacéis. ¿Cómo pasáis vuestro tiempo libre?
Arttu: Bueno, ahora mismo damos como dos conciertos por semana, así que la semana ya se cubre con eso. Yo ensayo en casa, salgo por ahí y escribo canciones.
Johnny: Yo suelo pasar el tiempo componiendo, y también mezclando las demos del grupo.
Arttu: Todo lo que hacemos está relacionado con la música, conciertos acústicos, escribir canciones en casa, ver películas y escuchar más música, hago cualquier cosa que me pueda llevar a un estado apropiado para componer. Simplemente intento ser feliz.

Este jueves el HRC celebrará un evento especial en honor de Kiss, y Gene Simmons estará allí. No sé si estarás sólo tú (Arttu) o…
Arttu: Bueno, al final él (Johnny) también viene, aunque no era lo que se acordó, pero debería estar allí, así que tocaremos algunas canciones de KISS, algunas de Santa Cruz….
‘Aiming High’ es un buen título para una canción y para una pregunta. ¿Cómo de altas son vuestras expectativas en el mundo musical?
Arttu: Bueno… expectativas… mmmm… ¡No tengo ni idea! Supongo que muy altas. Ahora mismo no pienso si debemos ser realistas, simplemente nos hemos puesto un listón muy alto. Queremos llegar muy lejos…. Lo ideal sería que pudiéramos ir a todos los continentes, tocar delante de miles de personas, ser un grupo conocido y simplemente hacer rock para mucha gente.
Johnny: [Coincide] Me gustaría hacer algo como la gira 360º de U2, algo grande.
Y para acabar y siendo una revista española, hay una pregunta que no podemos dejar pasar, ¿qué opinión tenéis, habéis estado alguna vez?
Arttu: No, todavía no, pero espero que podamos tocar en Madrid.
Johnny: [Convencido] Sí, tocaremos en Madrid.
Arttu: A ver en otoño. ¡Me encanta España!, ¿eres española?, ¿de que parte?…
Sí, de la zona de Andalucía…
Arttu: [Tras intentar ubicar Badajoz] Vale… bueno… ¡No lo conozco! ¿Es como Barcelona? Estuve allí un par de veces, me compré una guitarra en una tienda del centro, en una plaza… ¿cómo se llamaba?, ¿cual es la zona más situada al centro?.

Arttu: [Celebrando] ¡Sí, en Las Ramblas!
¿Y qué le diríais a nuestros lectores para que se queden enganchados a Santa Cruz?
Arttu: ¿Con nosotros o con el grupo? (risas)

Arttu: [Reflexiona] ¡Enganchaos con nosotros! ¿Qué puedo decir…? Si alguna vez venís a un concierto estoy totalmente seguro que os gustará lo que vais a ver, incluso aunque no os guste del todo la música, veréis a cuatro tíos haciendo algo que aman con todas sus fuerzas, así que seguramente no decepcionemos.

A few months ago, and just before they kicked off their first UK tour, we had the chance to talk with Finland’s Santa Cruz members Arttu (vocals, guitar) and Johnny (guitar, backing vocals), both former members of the band. We had a really cool time with them, and I could see with my own eyes that this two guys have a natural energy inside and outside the stage.

Arttu/Johnny: [laughs] Moro!!
For those who doesn’t have a clue about Santa Cruz, could you please introduce yourselves and tell us how did you come together?
Arttu: Well… Me and Johnny we met in 2006 actually for the first time, but we didn’t click after one year, when we met again in 2007. Johnny had this bedding west with the W.A.S.P patcher and his hair had grown too much longer, and I was like «what the fuck!, is that the same dude?» And then I heard him play, it was like shit, we have to make music. And you know,we both had the same influences at that point like the 80’s hard rock bands that we wanna do sound like and we both were straight guitar and we just decided to put the band together and that year 2007, when it’s basically wrote songs together. We had a drummer and a bass guitar as well in the beginning, but they didn’t have enough dedication for the band.
Johnny: They didn’t fit the bill.
Arttu: Yeah… And actually our first drummer is now the singer in the band called Face of God and…
Johnny: We rehearse in the same rehearsal place, so…
Arttu: And we just wrote some songs on 2007 and we put two tracks on myspace but we didn‘t have real players in the band like until 2008, until we got Middy on bass and with Middy came this drummer Oscar, who’s actually the drummer of Face of God nowadays. And we played with those guys like a half a year and then we got a new drummer but of course Middy stayed because you know Middy it’s our bass player as well and we had this guy Tommy who played like in two gigs. We did one demo that was called ‘Screaming For Adrenaline’, with 5 or 6 tracks or something.

Johnny: I think that’s with 7 tracks…
Arttu: 7 tracks?? Yeah… It’s almost the cd, you know!
Johnny: Only 22 made of those…
Arttu: Actually I printed the covers myself.-.
Johnny: [Laughing] We glued them together.
Arttu: I wish I had one [copy]. [Thinking back] I can show you the cover, actually, I have the photograph! I can show you the picture if you want… It’s cooler than I remember, it’s just that I’m more fit those days. (Showing the picture) There you go. I can send you the picture if you want… Yeah… that’s like 6 years ago!
Johnny: Wow, 6 years ago… man!
You look really different (Johnny) and you look more or less the same, you look like Bon Jovi!!
Arttu: Yeah… the brown hair!! I was going for the BJ look so…
Johnny: Middy has a little stomach…
Arttu: Yeah, Middy has a little stomach… He’s the thinnest (LOL).
Arttu: Yeah, we made this and then, in 2009 Tommy… well, wasn’t in the band anymore…. He was a cool dude, but he didn’t have the dedication and he didn’t fit the bill as well, you know? Then we thought of Taz, you know, a thrash metal guy, he played in a thrash metal band.
Thrash Metal? But this is pretty different from hard rock genre…
Arttu: Well… more or less but, you know… We all like trash metal which it’s slightly out of the style and he liked Mötley Crüe and shit before that as well, and I think that people who did thrash metal did hard rock as well, mostly. And what you were asking, we did two EPs. (In this moment he realizes that the first answer took a very long time). And… this is the first question!!
Johnny: [Mocks] Like a half an hour squeeze…
It’s been six years since you were born, quite a while. Could you tell us some bad/good stuff that happened to the band from the beginning?
Johnny: Well, we lost all the competitions that we played in!
Arttu: Yeah, we never won any competion! Only one once! The one we won was the one in which we had to play in Apollo Stadium, the one thing we won, but we’ve been like in 5-6 competitions and we never won any of those, so that’s the bad things probably. And the good things are the most of things that have happened while we are here, that had happened to us for being together for six years now and our first album came out. It’s basically being in a band and steadily going forward, we didn’t have any overnight success, we just keep on playing and things happen all along. I think that if you do something in what you believe in and you do it good, just good things start to happen sooner or later.
Few weeks ago I saw an [Arttu] acoustic gig with another musicians like Vince, singer in White Flame, this fact reminded me about two years ago, when you had that thing –something like Santa Cruz Rock Nights- on which you invited another musicians to play with you. Is this still happening? What can you tell us about?
Arttu: No, not anymore. It was only like we were the house band at On the Rocks, they wanna had a kind of similar set up as the one that Steel Panther has in L.A. but we got a stand up comedy. We just played our songs, just a little bit covers and we had a special guest every night and that happened two times a month and in June, once a week.

I dont know how to say that but… I feel a little bit confused about your discography…
Arttu: (Surprised and naughty) XD Whyyyy??
Well, maybe ‘confused’ is not the right word… I mean, I found this record called ‘Another Rush of Adrenaline’, but your first EP was entitled ‘Anthems for the Young N’ Restless’. How was that?
Arttu: Well… basically ‘Another Rush of Adrenaline’, it’s a demo cd and I think that ‘Anthems for the Young and Restless’ is probably that: in its similar in essence, it’s a demo as well but the quality it’s better so it’s more an EP cause we didn’t distribute, and sold it and… So I think the difference is that ‘Another Rush’ is a demo.
In your debut album – ‘Screaming for Adrenaline’ – you have included several songs of this ‘Anthems for the Young N’ Restless’. Why didn’t just new songs?, what differences can we find between these two releases?
Arttu: To answer that, more or less, these were demos of the songs and to us it was always clear that when our debut album comes out we are going to have the best songs in it. So the rest of songs are versions of the songs to get us a record deal with which we could do a full album, you know. And we just felt those songs were amongst the best songs we had, so we wanted to slightly improve them, make them better and to have fine versions for a bigger audience. They are the first versions of the songs.

Arttu y Johnny: [Shocked] Really?!
Yeah!! Can you tell me more about the story behind and the writing process?
Johnny: ‘Let me (Lay My Love On You)’ was actually the first song that we did together…
Arttu: Yeah… actually it goes a way back! But it‘s altered a lot, it’s changed a lot. I actually made it in 5th grade, we had this fucking stupid riff, almost the same chorus like ‘LM(LMLOY)’… and we made it together after that but we actually had a demo of this song in my space in 2007.
Johnny: I think it was the second…
Arttu: Yeah, it was the second song we released. We had this song, ‘Keep Off The Feeling’, and ‘Let Me (Lay My Love On You)’. Those were our first songs, but it’s quite different from LMLMLOY now.
Arttu: You want to tell ‘Nothing Compares to You’?
Johnny: It was actually… Can you do it also, please?
Arttu: I had a recording on my cellphone. I just had that melody in my head, and I just thought it was like a kind of song that reminded me of Arizona, the hills, the shit, like living on the edge. And then I played the demo to Johnny and he made like a computer version of it, with the drums and shit, and after the demo it was just me accoustic guitar and singing, and we put it together in the rehearsal place. Actually I think that we tried to figure out the lyrics to the chorus together. I couldn’t make it up. I think this is one of those songs that has even more lyrics of Johnny’s lyrics that from mine or 50/50.
How’s your writing process and your working routine?
Johnny: It depends so much… Well… we now record it together because we live almost in the same apartment so it’s kind of useful but…
Arttu: I myself if come with an idea, I usually just sing and play accoustically or record it in my iphone or computer and start working just from there. Johnny usually makes a full demo with a drum machine and shit. We just usually pick up the best ones and sometimes Johnny has a demo like with the full song, but without the melody and I come up with the melody and the lyrics for that.
And how do work on lyrics…?
Arttu: Oh, well, I usually put it right here or in an iPad or in a computer…
Johnny: And usually every song has a song title before lyrics, so it’s easier to start to write.
Arttu: Yeah, it’s easier to come with the tittle first, because if you write the lyrics before, the title usually sucks! For example, Relentless Renegades, it came before the lyrics. It was first the chorus line, then the lyrics, surrounding it, it’s more easy to create a story sorrounding something, than surrounding the title.
After listen to the music and watch your videos, I instantly think about bands like Bon Jovi, Skid Row, or Guns N’Roses. How do you describe this influences?
Arttu: Well, they are big influences specially when we started, that was the music we wanted to make, the kind of music we wanted to make but nowadays we’ve been starting to bring our own sound, bringing elements from other genres as well. So that is like the core, that influences us. We take influences from everyway, cause nowadays really none of us cracks up a Motley Crue record at home unless we are partying. We listen to all kinds of music as well. You can also hear it but it sounds modern as well.

Do you listen to any new bands that doesn’t play hard rock?
Arttu: New band that doesn’t play hard rock? Yeah… for example… John Mayer it’s a big influence for me, as a songwriter as a guitarist, it’s fucking great. I actually I’ve been discovering some of the new rap music as well, I just to hate new rap music, I always liked all old rap music, pop bands like Coldplay, they are great and…
Johnny: [Laughing] I disagree…
Arttu: [Surprised] Disagree, really? I think that’s a good relaxing music if you want to relax in the dark …. listen … For smoothing up you are not going to use Slayer…
On last month Helsinki’s Hard Rock Cafe launched a competition to choose the band who would represent Finland in the World Championship. You entered and reached the final with Strong Addicttion – who won – and Face of God. How was the experience, and what do you think about these bands?
Arttu: It was great! We got to play in HRC, we got some free food and it was fucking great as well. Face, we got back long time with Face of God specially because most of their band have been in our band and we had actually been in the same rehearsal place with Strong Adiction for a year or two, so we all go back so it was kind like just having fun with friends.
A few days ago you were playing in Tavastia, a venue considered the best place to play in Helsinki…
Arttu/Johnny: Yeah! It was fucking cool! It’s just very close from here!
How does it feel? Do you think that your fans enjoy the new songs?
Arttu: Yeah! Of course … It goes without saying: it feels awesome. The fact that we played Tavastia all by ourselves and so many people came to see us on a Thursday night…
Johnny: Were you there?

Arttu: When is our next gig in Helsinki?

Arttu: Fuck yeah! Cool. But, well… We played in Tavastia two times before but this was only supporting.
Johnny: That was bigger.
Arttu: Yeah, this was only us… Without supporting act.
Until now you’ve made some videos, complete a small tour to promote the record and you have more touring plans here in Finland. What will be your next step?
Johnny: We are going to Germany and UK.
Arttu: Yeah, and Spain as well, probably…
Johnny: And hopefully Japan.
Finland have a really big scene, and it seems that everyone help each other, what do you think about the youngest bands such like Shiraz Lane? I was watching them the last month…
Arttu: Shiraz Lane? Yeah… I know them and… I think that I know a few guys from the band, I think I do (Thinking). Yeah… (They laugh). I do, I do! I think the singer has a good voice, I think in 3-4 years it’s going to be awesome, it’s kind like of Sebastian Bach, so give them 3-4 years and they are going to kick ass. I think…
Johnny: I think that the best are Blood Buster!
Arttu: They are from Kuopio, they are like a AC/DC kind of band, they have brothers in the band as well as Airbourne and AC/DC.
Ok. So, you are under 23 years old…
Johnny: ¡21!
Arttu: 21, yeah… And Middy it’s 20.
[Shocked] 21… Leaving aside the band activity, how do you spend your free time?
Arttu: Well, right now we are having like two gigs a week so a week can go with that. I practise guitar at home and just go out and write songs.
Johnny: I usually write all the time music or something and mix band’s demos.
Arttu: We do all kind of stuff that surrounds the music, all kind of happenings and of accoustic gigs and writing songs at home and watching movies and listening to music. All kinds of creating that sets you up into an inspirational mood. I just try to be happy.

Arttu: Well… Actually he is coming as well (Johnny) but he isn’t fitting the bill, but he should be there. He isn’t in the bill but it should be there, so it‘s gonna be like a few songs KISS and a few songs Santa Cruz. I don’t know…
‘Aiming High’ it’s a good title for a song and for a question. How high are your expectations?
Arttu: BWell… The expectations … Hmmmm…. I don’t know about that! I think that pretty high actually. You know… I actually don’t think about if this is realistic or not… I just set them really high. We want to be really high… Basically the ideal situation would be if we could go to every continent in the world, audiences over thousand people, and people coming to see our band, be a popular band and just play rock to a big audience.
Johnny: Make big tours. I would like to have something like U2 360º tour, big something.
Being a spanish media, this last question is required. What do you think about our country, have you ever been in Spain?
Arttu: No, not yet but hopefully we are going to play in Madrid.
Johnny: Yeah, we are going to play in Madrid.
Arttu: Yeah, this fall. I love Spain! Are you from Spain, which part?…
Yes, I’m from to Andalucia…
Arttu: [After try to locate Badajoz] Ok… well… I don’t know that! What do you think it’s Barcelona like? I have been there for a few times, I bought a guitar from there… in the center, in a square, how is it called… how is it called…? The most in the centre that you can be?.
