¡Desenfundad vuestras espadas y prestaos al combate! Los integrantes de Twilight Force no van a conformarse con menos que con arrastraros a las profundidades de su mundo de ensueño, regido por brujos y por dragones.
Esta compañía del guitarrista Felipe y del teclista Daniele cristalizó en la Forja del Crepúsculo hace varias lunas, cuando el vocalista Christian Hedgren y el batería Robban Bäck, camino de una campaña con Sabaton, descansaron sus caballos en sus establos. Este otoño se sentarán al fuego de vuestros hogares para contaros ‘Tales Of Ancient Prophecies‘ e incluso para cantaros en persona si sois buenos. Convocamos en la caverna del conocimiento al teclista Daniele y al cantante Christian Hedgren para que nos desvelaran con sus runas lo que ocultan bajo sus túnicas mágicas.
Twilight Force es un nombre poderoso: ¿qué oculta la Fuerza del Crepúsculo? ¿Cómo de poderosa es la Fuerza del Crepúsculo?
La Fuerza del Crepúsculo es una fuente de esperanza, de serenidad y de antiguos poderes. Tiene el poder de iluminar, de guiar, de crear y de conquistar.
Habéis nacido este año, en Falun (Suecia). ¿Cómo os juntáis y decidís formar esta banda y en ese preciso momento? Para todos aquellos que no lo sepan, Falun es una ciudad donde han nacido muchas bandas de rock, ¿pensáis que la escena de allí os ha influido a la hora de conducir vuestra banda?
Formalmente no nos conjuramos en 2011 A.D. (Quizá incluso antes, de acuerdo a algunos eruditos). Y todo comenzó cuando Daniele y Felipe se sumergieron en antiguas cámaras en la villa adyacente de Borlange. Sentimos una intensa necesidad y una llamada primordial de resucitar un sub-género musical (el power metal de finales de los 90) que desde hace tiempo había comenzado a languidecer. Queríamos mantener la fuerza, las melodías y la intensidad de la época, pero llevarlo todavía más lejos. La escena local es realmente basta y omnipresente, pero no ha tenido ningún impacto en nuestras decisiones de cuándo y por qué crear Twilight Force.

Vais a publicar vuestro debut en otoño, ¿qué vamos a encontrar allí? ¿Por qué no deberíamos perdérnoslo? ¿Estará disponible mundialmente?
Experimentareis un viaje musical a través de un paisaje sónico vívido y mágico, lleno de velocidad, de precisión, y de majestuosa esperanza. Descubriréis también historias de heroicas hazañas, de antiguas batallas y de míticas búsquedas de gloria. Será algo a lo que no habréis prestado vuestros oídos en un largo tiempo, si es que lo habéis hecho alguna vez. Sí, estará disponible en todos los mundos conocidos para la humanidad.
Definís vuestra música como metal de aventuras. ¿Cómo lo describiríais de una forma más extensa?
El metal de aventuras es nuestra creación y nuestro editor de libros electrónicos. Portamos hacia delante la llama eterna del metal desde hace décadas; pero ahora está enriquecida y ennoblecida para representar por completo la fuertemente imbuida fuerza y sabiduría que correspondió al género. El metal de aventuras es para nosotros la forma más refinada y la más intensa manifestación del poder del power metal, y la esencia y el pináculo de su evolución. Es también la suprema sinergia y mezcla de los sonidos contemporáneos y el lenguaje tonal de la música clásica y de las películas.
¿Cuáles son vuestras influencias?
Son múltiples y ninguna. Obtenemos la influencia y la creatividad del mundo que nos rodea, de la naturaleza y de la belleza de los mundos imaginarios, y de la bendición y de la serenidad de los ensueños, de los sueños y de la imaginación. También de la literatura, de los grandes compositores y de la cultura contemporánea.
Hemos escuchado dos canciones vuestras –’Enchanted Dragon Of Wisdom’ y ‘Twilight Horizon’-, ¿qué podéis contarnos de cómo fueron compuestas y de la historia que esconden? ¿Cómo es vuestro proceso compositivo y qué temas os inspiran?
Las canciones de ‘Twilight Force’ son compuestas y conjuradas habitualmente en uno o en varios arrebatos de creatividad. Los cimientos de la canción se construyen bastante rápido, pero se dedican inconmensurables eones de tiempo a refinar y a perfeccionar las melodías, los arreglos y las interpretaciones. Las melodías y los temas memorables siempre han sido y serán la quintaesencia y el núcleo de cualquier pieza musical de ‘Twilight Force’. Las canciones son siempre compuestas en nuestro estudio, la Forja del Crepúsculo, más que en un lugar de ensayo. Eso deja mucho espacio para la experimentación, la escucha crítica y la modificación. Aunque supone emplear mucho tiempo, es una forma insuperable de crear música. Las letras se escriben siempre después de que se haya completado la música, ya que pensamos que es de importancia primordial que las letras encajen en las melodías y las sigan. Así que el número de sílabas y el uso de las vocales correctas etc es de particular importancia para el resultado. Un tema particular para una canción deriva de las emociones y de las visiones interiores que la canción evoca en nosotros. Lee las letras mientras que escuchas los cortes y comparte y experimenta nuestras visiones.
En las fotos promocionales os hemos visto retratados como monjes o peregrinos, elfos y guerreros, ¿es este un concepto que queréis trasladar al disco? ¿Cómo encontrasteis el personaje que mejor encajaba para cada uno? ¿Me está jugando mi imaginación malas pasadas o sois grandes fans de El Señor de Los Anillos? ¿Es un homenaje a vuestro pasado vikingo?
La música y su lenguaje son el corazón y el hogar de Twilight Force, y no deseamos que nuestra identidad y su retrato de personajes constituyan una distracción de nuestra causa y de nuestro propósito. Sin embargo, queremos que las características individuales y el estrato de nuestra camarilla se reflejen en las visiones y en el imaginario que representa Twilight Force.
No hay una referencia expresa a El Señor de los Anillos en particular, pero los trabajos literarios de J.R.R. Tolkien son probablemente un fragmento de inspiración para muchos humanos vivientes. Los vikingos no son una influencia per se, pero su herencia y los antiguos mitos nórdicos están obviamente entrelazados con la mayoría del trabajo fantástico actual.

¿Vais a rodar un vídeo? ¿Cuál sería el concepto de un vídeo para Twilight Force?
Estamos barajando la posibilidad de crear un vídeo en un previsible futuro. Sin embargo, semejante esfuerzo requeriría insuperables recursos y talento para hacerse realidad; porque no nos conformaremos con menos que la perfección. Hay un espectro muy estrecho sobre lo que visualmente y conceptualmente consideramos aceptable con respecto a los vídeos de metal en general, y con respecto a Twilight Force, en concreto.
A la batería encontramos a Robban Bäck, de Eclipse y de Sabaton. ¿Qué picante añade a vuestra ecuación?
Robban es el corazón latiente de Twilight Force. Su habilidad como baterista es casi inigualable, y la estabilidad y el poder de su implacable pegada constituyen un firme pilar en nuestra constelación.
En esta gira, a la batería tenéis el reemplazo de Daniel Sjögren, de Billion Dollar Babies. ¿Cómo se une al proyecto? ¿En qué se parece y en qué se diferencia de Robban?
Daniel es un baterista totalmente exquisito y estamos emocionados y nos sentimos honrados de tener su talento a bordo. Ha evolucionado de la misma vena musical (de la hipotética academia, si prefieres) que Robban, por lo que su forma de manejar su instrumento es digamos que similar en el estilo y en la interpretación. Por ello, Daniel es el baterista perfecto para reemplazar a Robban cuando no está disponible.
Christian participaste en la edición sueca de La Voz, en 2012. ¿Qué recuerdas de esos días en la academia y qué aprendiste? ¿Qué canciones interpretaste? La audición ha superado las 800.000 visitas en YouTube, ¿cómo sienta eso?
Interpreté ‘Run To The Hills’, ‘Dead Ringer For Love’ y ‘Crazy Crazy Nights’. (Riéndose) Me hace sentir raro rondar casi un millón de visitas, pero me hace feliz que a la gente le guste lo que hago.
Christian has colaborado en numerosas ocasiones con Sabaton, incluso te encontramos en su último disco, Carolus Rex. ¿Cuándo os conocisteis y cómo comenzaron estas colaboraciones? ¿Cómo es trabajar con estos chicos? ¿Cuándo vais a volver a trabajar juntos? ¿Cuál es tu canción favorita?
Oh, veamos, crecí en la misma ciudad que los chicos de Sabaton, y me pidieron que cantara en ‘Attero Dominatus’ (2006), y desde entonces se ha convertido en una tradición para mí participar en sus discos. Son geniales y siempre he disfrutado durante la grabación. No hubiese cantado con ellos si como personas no me gustaran. Con un poco se suerte volveremos a trabajar juntos en el próximo disco y quizá volveré a pisar el escenario también en algún momento, ja ja. Cada canción que canto es mi favorita, ja ja, no, me refiero a que hay un montón de grandes canciones, pero si tuviera que elegir una creo que sería ‘Runa Imperii’.
Christian has cantado AOR, hard rock, heavy metal, y power metal. ¿Cuál es el estilo con el que te sientes más cómodo? ¿Hay algún otro estilo que vayas a probar?
Me gusta probar diferentes estilos de música, mi último proyecto es la ópera. Me gustan probar diferentes estilos.
Christian también has colaborado con Andrée Theander y con el batería de Work Of Art en la banda The Theander Expression, el disco fue publicado en mayo. ¿Qué te decidió a unirte al proyecto? ¿Vas a girar con esta banda?
El disco se publica en septiembre (puede encontrarse en Spotify). Me gustan los músicos que saben lo que quieren. Andrée me llamó y me dijo que iba a grabar su disco en solitario y auto-financiárselo. Cuando escuché las canciones no lo dudé, porque es un gran guitarrista y compositor. Todavía no voy a girar con ellos; ha pasado poco tiempo y no sé qué planea Andrée para el futuro.
Christian también estás en SunStrike, un proyecto de hard rock, y en The Power Of Metal, una banda de versiones de metal. ¿Cuánto se diferencian de Twilight Force y cómo contribuyes a estas bandas?
Oh, alguien ha hecho sus deberes, ja ja. Como ya he dicho antes, me gusta hacer diferentes tipos de música y siempre pongo mi corazón en cada proyecto o banda en el que estoy.

¿Qué podemos esperar de vuestro directo? ¿Cuáles son vuestros puntos fuertes y vuestras marcas de fábrica?
Nos esforzamos para ofrecer una impecable actuación. Usamos todos nuestros medios para producir una experiencia perfecta y sobrecogedora, en el sentido auditivo e interpretativo. Esperamos que seamos capaces de sumergir a la audiencia en nuestro mundo de fantasía, honor y magia, de compartir un momento de presencia intensa. Ocultamos numerosos trucos bajo nuestras mangas de magos para asegurar que nuestras actuaciones sean experiencias inolvidables.
¿Vais a girar pronto? Si es así, ¿qué lugares vais a visitar?
Todavía no tenemos fechas firmadas, pero estamos seguros de que la oportunidad se presentará por sí misma, y que la compartiremos y que la abrazaremos.
Comentáis en vuestra biografía que estáis preparando el segundo disco. ¿Cuándo se publicará?
Sí, el segundo disco está tomando forma según hablamos, y estará preparado para publicarse doce lunas después dl primero, si todo va según lo predecido. Espera algo extraordinario.
¿Qué deberíamos saber de Twilight Force?
Que nuestro nombre fue acuñado antes que cualquiera de las sagas de Twilight.

Draw your swords and attack! The members of Twilight Force won’t put away with less than dragging you to the dephs of their revery world, ruled by wizzards and dragons.
Daniele was lined up in the Twilight Forge some moons ago, when the vocalist Christian Hedgren and the drummer Robban Bäck, in the way of battling side to side with Sabaton, kept their horses in their stables. This Autumn they’ll seat in your fireplace to tell you ‘Tales Of Ancient Prophecies‘ and even to sing them to you in person if you behave. In the Cavern of Knowledge we summoned the keyboard player Daniele and singer Christian Hedgren for have them revealed through their runes what their magic tunics hide.
Twilight Force it’s a powerful name: What does the Twilight Force hide? How powerful is the Force of the Twilight?
The Twilight Force is a source of hope, serenity and ancient powers. It has the power to enlighten, to guide, to create and to conquer.
You were born this year, in Falun (Sweden). How do you all come together and decide to create this band and at that moment? For all that don’t know, Falun it’s a town in where have been born many rock bands, do you think the scene there had influenced you in the way of handling your band?
We were formally conjured in 2011 A.D. (Perhaps even earlier according to some scholars). And it all began with Daniele and Felipe submerged in ancient chambers in the adjacent village of Borlange. We felt a deep urge and a primordial call to resurrect a musical sub-genre (late 90’s power metal) that had since long started to wane and fade. We wanted to maintain the power, melodies and intensity of that era, but take it even farther. The local music scene is indeed vast and omnipresent, but has not have any impact on our decisions when and why we created Twilight Force.

You are releasing your debut in Fall, what are we going to find there? Why we shouldn’t miss it? Would it be available worldwide?
You will experience a musical journey through a vivid and magical sonic landscape, filled with swiftness, accuracy and majestic hope. You will also discover tales of heroic deeds, ancient battles and mythical quests for glory. It will be something you have not laid your ears upon in a very long time, if ever. Yes, it will be available throughout all worlds known to humankind.
You define your music as adventure power metal, how would you describe that in further detail?
Adventure Metal is our creation and our sigil. We carry onwards the everlasting flame of power metal from decades ago; but it is now begilded and ennobled to fully represent the deeply ingrained force and wisdom that was once a part of the genre. Adventure Metal is to us the most refined and intense manifestation of power metal, and the essence and pinnacle of its evolution. It is also the supreme synergy and merging of contemporary sounds and classical/motion picture tonal language.
Which are your influences?
Our influences are numerous, but none. We gain influence and creativity from the world around us, the nature and beauty of imaginary worlds, and the the bliss and serenity of reveries, dreams and imagination. Also from literature, great composers and contemporary popular culture.
We’ve listened to two of your songs –’Enchanted Dragon Of Wisdom’ and ‘Twilight Horizon’-, what can you tell us about the way they were written and the story behind them? How’s your writing process like and which topics do inspire you?
Twilight Force songs are often composed and conjured in one or a few intense surges of creativity. The foundations for a song are laid out rather quickly, but unfathomable aeons of time is spent refining and perfecting the melodies, arrangements and performances. Memorable melodies and themes have always been, and will always be, the quintessence and core of any Twilight Force musical piece. The songs are always composed in our studio, the Twilight Forge, rather than in a rehearsal facility. This leaves endless room for experimentation, critical listening and change. Albeit time-consuming, it is a completely unsurpassed way to create music. The lyrics are always written after the music is completed, since we feel the utter importance for the words to fit and follow the melodies. Hence, the number of syllables and the use of correct vowels etc. becomes exceptionally significant to the outcome. A particular lyrical theme for a song is derived from the emotions and inner visions that the song invokes upon us. Read the lyrics while listening, and share and experience our visions!
In the promo pictures we’ve seen you portraited as monks or peregrins, elfs and warriors, is that a concept you want to translate to the album? How did you find the character that fitted best everyone? Does my imagination play tricks on me or you are big fans of Lord of The Rings? Is it a homage to your Viking past?
The music and its language is the heart and hearth of Twilight Force, and we wish not the identity and portrayal of personae to constitute a distraction from our cause and purpose. However, we want the individual characteristics and stratum in our cabal to reflect upon the visions and imagery that Twilight Force represents.
There is no direct reference to Lord of the Rings in particular, but the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien is probably a subconcious shard of inspiration to many currently living humans. Vikings are not an influence per se, but their heritage and ancient nordic myths are obviously intertwined with most contemporary fantasy work.

Are you filming a video? What would the concept be like for a video of Twilight Force?
We are looking into the possibility of creating a video in a foreseeable future. However, such an ambitious endevour would require insurmountable recources and talent to actualize; because we shall not settle with anything less than perfection. There is an extremely narrow spectrum of what is visually and conceptually acceptable to us in respect to metal videos in general, and Twilight Force in particular.
On drums we find Robban Bäck, of Eclipse and of Sabaton. What’s the spice he adds to your equation?
Robban is the beating heart of Twilight Force. His proficiency as a batterist is almost unparallelled, and the stability and force of his relentless beating constitutes a staunch backbone in our constellation.
For touring you have on drums the replacement of Daniel Sjögren, of Billion Dollar Babies. How does he join the project? How different and how similar is to Robban?
Daniel is an absolute exquisite drummer, and we are thrilled and honoured to have his talent onboard. He has evolved from the same musical vein (hypothetical academy if you will) as Robban, therefore, their way of tractating their instrument is somewhat similar in style and performance. Hence, Daniel is the perfect drummer to replace Robban whenever he happens to be unavailable.
Christian you entered The Voice Sweden last year. What do you remember of the days in the academy and what did you learn? Which rock songs did you perform there? The audition has reached 800.000 views on YouTube, how does that feel like?
‘Run To The Hills’, ‘Dead Ringer For Love’ and ‘Crazy Crazy Nights’. Haha It feels weird that I’m pretty close to a million views, but I’m glad people like what I do.
Christian you’ve collaborated several times with Sabaton, even we find you in their last record, Carolus Rex. When did you met and how did all this collaboration started? How is it to work with these guys? When are you working back together? Which is your favourite song of the band?
Oh let’s see, I grew up in the same town as the guys in Sabaton, and I got asked to sing on the album Attero Dominatus, and since then it has become almost a tradition for me to participate on their albums.
They are great and we always have a great time during recording. I wouldn’t have sung with them if I didn’t liked the guys. Hopefully we will work together again on the next album, and maybe I’ll streak the stage again sometime too haha. Every song that I sing on is my favourite, haha no, I mean there are a lot of great songs, but if I had to choose one I think I’d say ‘Runa Imperii’.
Christian you’ve sang aor, hard rock, heavy metal, and power metal. What’s the style you feel more comfortable with? Is there any other style we’ll find you trying?
I like to do different styles of music, my latest project is opera. I like them all in differrent ways.
Christian you’ve also collaborated with Andrée Theander and the drummer of Work Of Art in the band of Theander, the album was released in May. What decided you to join the Project? Are you touring with this band?
The album is going to be released in September. I like musicians who knows what they want. Andree called me and said that he was going to record his solo album and finance it himself. When I heard the songs I didn’t hesitate at all, because he is a great guitar player and songwriter. I’m not touring with them yet; it is so new and I don’t know what Andree have in mind for the future.
Christian you are also in SunStrike, a hard rock Project, and in The Power Of Metal, a cover band of metal songs. How different are from Twilight Force and to the contribution you do to them?
Oh, someone has done their homework, haha. As I said before, I like doing different kinds of music. And I always put my heart into every project/band that I have.

What can we expect from you live? Which are your strong points and trade marks?
We strive to deliver an impeccable live performance. We will use all means possible to achieve a flawless and overwhelming experience, both sound-wise and performance-wise. We hope to be able to submerge the audience in our world of wonder, honour and magic, to share a moment of intense presence. We have several tricks up our wizard sleeves to make sure our live performances are unforgettable experiences.
Are you touring soon? If so, which places are you going to visit?
Touring is not yet scheduled, but we are sure that the opportunity will present itself, and we shall then seize and embrace it.
You mention in your biography that a second album it’s on the making. When will it come out?
Yes, the second album is taking shape as we speak, and it will likely be ready for release within twelve moons of the first one, should everything go as predicted. Expect something extraordinary.
Which things are a must to know of Twilight Force?
The name was coined before any Twilight Saga movies.
