Sabéis que nunca queremos rebajar la temperatura y que queremos manteneros informados de vuestros chicos favoritos, los suecos H.E.A.T., por lo que nos fuimos al Melodic Rock Festival IV de Chicago para comprobar cómo se estrenaban en su primera aventura norteamericana. Nuestra amiga la francocanadiense Justine Hamel lo vio, lo sintió y os lo cuenta todo, incluso que no pudo recibir mejor regalo de cumpleaños. (Hmm, probablemente no se le pasó por la cabeza pedir una sesión conjunta de chocolaterapia con Crash, pero nadie es perfecto ;P).

Era un día perfecto: un festival de rock en Chicago, 10 bandas, una sala llena de fans de rock y auténticos amantes del rock’n’roll. He sido una gran fan del rock melódico desde los 14 años, por permitidme que os cuente este sueño.
La razón principal que me impulsó en concreto a este festival fue la banda sueca H.E.A.T.. Conocí a esta banda a través de YouTube, en sus comienzos en 2009, y la sigo desde entonces; me sé todas sus canciones, tengo todos sus discos. Soñaba desde hace tanto tiempo verlos en Norteamérica… Muchos de mis amigos de Facebook han sido lo bastante afortunados como para seguirles durante sus giras. Su talento para el espectáculo, su pasión por el rock y su generosidad son todas amigos les han definido durante todos estos años.
Después de 5 años de espera y de ilusiones, el sueño se hizo realidad: H.E.A.T. sería cabeza de cartel en el Melodic Rock Festival 4 en Chicago, en su primera aparición en Norteamérica. Por si no fuera poco, su actuación fue programada para la noche en la que cumplía 29 años.

Llegué pronto (a las 13h) al bar para asegurarme la primera fila, ja ja. Tan pronto como pisé el bar, vi a Erik Grönwall, el cantante, que me dijo hola y me habló. Mi corazón, como un cohete sobrevoló el cielo y todo empezó a girar tan rápido en mi mente… Después, Crash, el batería y Eric Rivers, el guitarrista, se acercaron y comenzaron a hablarme. ¡Fue increíble! Me preguntaron de dónde era y se percataron de que tenía el nombre de la banda tatuado en mi hombro. ¡Estaba en el séptimo cielo! Había llevado una bandera sueca y la autografiaron y añadieron Feliz Cumpleaños y otras felicitaciones. Fueron generosos muy por encima de mis expectativas.
Después de ese encuentro de ensueño, me aparqué enfrente del escenario desde las 13.30 hasta las 23.00, hora en la que salían a tocar. Durante todo ese tiempo conocí a fans maravillosos que compartían mi entusiasmo e hice nuevos amigos. Los fans eran numerosos, si juzgamos por el número de camisetas con el logo de la banda que vi entre la multitud.
¡Empezaron 40 minutos tarde, pero mereció la pena la espera!
Se subieron al escenario y comenzaron con ‘Point Of No Return‘ y la audiencia enloqueció. Le siguió ‘A Shot Of Redemption‘, para el gozo de sus pacientes fans.
Después nos mimaron con un trío de canciones del excelente disco Address The Nation, publicado en 2012: ‘Better Off Alone‘, ‘Heartbreaker‘ y ‘It’s All About Tonight‘. Era todo tan intenso que tenía la carne de gallina. Exactamente igual que verdaderos rockstars lo ofrecieron todo en cada canción para el delirio de la multitud.
La explosiva canción ‘Inferno‘ fue la siguiente y subió el calor en la sala, si es que fuera posible… Para calmar un poquito al público, eligieron ‘Tearing Down The walls‘. Todos cantaron el estribillo.
La fiesta se reinició cuando tocaron ‘Mannequin Show‘, ‘Late Night Lady‘, ‘Beg Beg Beg‘ y, en un torbellino de aplausos, ‘Highway Star‘, una versión de Deep Purple. Estaba en el paraíso cuando continuaron con ‘Downtown‘ e ‘In And Out Of Trouble‘. ¡Mis dos canciones favoritas! Derramé una lágrima o dos (o incluso más… LOL).

La asistencia quería más, por lo que les mimaron con canciones de sus dos primeros discos. La súper rítmica ‘Danger Road‘ y la preciosa balada ‘Who Will Stop The Rain‘ fueron muy bien recibidas. Los fans de primera hora estaban muy satisfechos, según las sonrisas en sus caras.
Siguieron con dos canciones de su último disco: ‘Enemy In Me‘ y ‘Emergency‘. Los chicos no parecían cansados, su energía parecía mágica, irreal. ¡Qué placer! Abandonaron el escenario durante unos momentos. Obviamente la muchedumbre quería más y estallaron en aplausos y corearon el nombre de la banda.
Como primer bis, nos agasajaron con ‘Breaking The Silence‘. Como segundo, Erik mencionó que la última canción de la noche iba a ser ‘Living On The Run‘. La Totale! (expresión francesa que significa “para coronarlo todo”). ¡Fue mágico! Un sentimiento indescriptible llenó mi alma. ¡Menudo gozo cuando escuché a la gente cantar y a los músicos tocar con tanto placer! Desafortunadamente, el show debía acabar… a la una de la mañana. Obviamente los fans amaron la experiencia y consideraron el concierto digno de una auténtica banda de rock, con tanta energía sobre el escenario.
Creo firmemente que H.E.A.T tienen un futuro en Norteamérica. Conquistaron a la gente y estuvieron a la altura de su reputación como grandes showmen. En un mundo donde el rock and roll parece desvanecerse, H.E.A.T es la mayor ESPERANZA en el mundo melódico.
Para terminar, me gustaría agradecer al productor del MRF4, Andrew, por un maravilloso festival. Asimismo, ¡un gigantesco GRACIAS a los chicos de H.E.A.T por una noche memorable y por convertir en realidad un sueño!

You know we never want to turn the heat down and that we enjoy keeping you in the vibe of your favourite guys, the Swedish H.E.A.T, so we made it to the Melodic Rock Festival IV of Chicago to check how they were doing in their first North American adventure. Our friendo, the French Canadian Justine Hamel saw it, felt it, and tells you all straight, even that she couldn’t get a better birthday present. (Hmm, probably she didn’t think about a chocolateraphy session with Crash, but nobody’s perfect ;P).

It was the perfect day: a rock festival in Chicago, 10 bands, a room filled with rock fans and true rock and roll lovers. I’ve been a huge fan of melodic rock since I was 14 years old.
So let me tell you about this dream.
The main reason that led me to this particular festival was the Swedish rock band HEAT. I have known this band through YouTube from their beginnings in 2009; I know all their songs, I bought all their albums. For so long I dreamed of seeing them in North America. Many of my Facebook friends had been lucky enough to follow the band on their tours. Their showmanship, passion for rock music and generosity were all qualities that my friends told me about over the years.
After 5 years of waiting and hoping, the dream came true: HEAT would be the headliner at the Melodic Rock Festival 4 in Chicago, a first appearance in North America for them. As if that wasn’t enough, their performance was scheduled on the night I was celebrating my 29th birthday!
I arrived early (1 PM) at the bar to make sure I would be first row. Haha. As soon as I set foot in the bar, I saw Eric Grönwall, the singer, who said hello and talked to me. My heart rate skyrocketed and everything started to spin so fast in my mind. Then, Crash, the drummer and Eric Rivers, the guitar player, came to see me and started talking to me. It was incredible! They asked me where I was from and noticed that I have the name of the band tattooed on my shoulder. I was on cloud nine! I had brought a Swedish flag to the event and they all autographed it, along with Happy B-Day whishes. They were generous beyond my wildest dreams.
After that dream meeting, I parked in front of the stage from 1:30 to 11 PM at which time H.E.A.T was set to go on. All that while, I met some amazing fans, shared my passion and created new friendships. The fans were many, judging by the number of t-shirts with the band’s logo that I saw in the crowd.
H.E.A.T ended up being 40 minutes late but it was worth the wait!
They got on stage and started the show with POINT OF NO RETURN. The crowd went wild! A SHOT AT REDEMPTION followed to the joy of their patient fans!
We were then treated to a trio of songs from the excellent album ADDRESS THE NATION, released in 2012: BETTER OFF ALONE, HEARTBREAKER, and IT’S ALL ABOUT TONIGHT. It was so intense I had goosebumps. Just like so called real rock stars, they gave everything they had with each song to the delight of the crowd.
The explosive song INFERNO followed and turned on the heat even more in the room, if that was possible at all… To calm the crowd down a bit, the ballad TEARING DOWN THE WALLS followed. Everybody sang the chorus.
The party picked up again when HEAT played MANNEQUIN SHOW, LATE NIGHT LADY, BEG BEG BEG and, in a whirlwind of applause, HIGHWAY STAR a Deep Purple cover.
I was in 7th heaven when the songs DOWNTOWN and IN AND OUT OF TROUBLE followed. My two favorite songs!!! I shed a tear or two (or more…lol).
The crowd wanted more and HEAT spoiled it with songs from their first two albums. The very rhythmic DANGER ROAD and a beautiful ballad WHO WILL STOP THE RAIN were well received by all. First hour fans were very satisfied judging by the smiles on their faces.
Two songs from the latest album followed: ENNEMY IN ME and EMERGENCY. The guys didn’t seemed tired at all, their energy seemed magical, unreal. What a joy!
They left the scene for a few moments. The crowd obviously wanted more and erupted in applause and chants of the band’s name.
For the first encore, the guys treated us with BREAKING THE SILENCE. Finally, Eric mentioned that the last song of the evening was going to be their hit LIVING ON THE RUN. LA TOTALE! It was magical! An indescribable feeling filled my soul. What a joy when I heard the crowd sing along and the musicians play it with so much pleasure! Unfortunately, the show had to come to an end… at 1 in the morning. The fans obviously loved their experience and saw a concert worthy of a true rock band, with such energy on stage.
I strongly believe that HEAT has a future in America. They conquered the crowd and lived up to their showmen’s reputation. In a world where rock and roll seems to fade away, HEAT is the biggest HOPE in the Melodic Rock.
In closing, I would like to thank the producer of MRF4, ANDREW, for a wonderful festival. Also, a humongous THANK YOU to the guys from HEAT for a memorable evening and a dream come true!
