A Jesper Lindgren ya le conocimos en sus tiempos de Pure Faith, cuando en una entrevista nos dejó claro que estaba dispuesto a comerse el mundo y a quedarse por mucho tiempo. Tras varios años trabajando, y algunos golpes de mala suerte, el chico fundó en 2013 su actual banda, con él a la guitarra y teniendo como compañeros al vocalista Jonas Eriksson, al bajista Niklas Eriksson y al batería Tobias, Velvet in Sane nacía y con ella comenzaba su nueva etapa.
Hace poco sacaron su primer EP, titulado ‘Youth on Fire‘ y, realmente es algo que te quema desde la primera vez que escuchas. Es un disco que destacaría en conjunto por reunir un poco del rock n’ roll de los 70, un toque de punk y un buen chute del glam rock de los 80.
El primer tema, y que da nombre al disco, empieza con una intro y un solo genial, en la que la guitarra de Jesper va marcando el ritmo todo el tiempo y con un estribillo y coros pegadizos y potentes. El disco continúa con ‘Get Ready‘, que te traslada a los 70, es una canción que particularmente me hace pensar en Misfits, especialmente por la voz de Jonas y el toque da la batería.

Tras estos dos primeros trallazos nos dejan un poco de respiro con la balada ‘When Fate Has Come‘, tema que me lleva directamente a ‘Every rose has its thorn’, a pesar de que, al hablar sobre ella con el guitarrista, éste me dijo ‘Puede ser… la verdad es que no conozco a Poison, nunca les he escuchado’, algo que me dejó sorprendida, pero que me lleva a pensar que todas las buenas canciones pueden tener cosas en común. En ‘When Fate Has Come‘, los suecos le dedican espacio a los ritmos sureños y es imposible no imaginarte en un concierto, rodeada por bengalas encendidas, mientras el grupo toca con luz tenue en el escenario.
Pero no penséis que el grupo había perdido fuelle, tras este pequeño descanso, vuelven a la carga con ‘King of the Foolish‘, otro gran tema marcado por tintes setenteros y una parte instrumental muy bien trabajada. A los fans de Lep Zeppelin no les dejará indiferentes, las guitarras nos recuerdan instantáneamente al gran Jimmy Page.
Le sigue la hard rockera ‘The Devils Prowl‘, una de mis favoritas del álbum, tan pegadiza como las anteriores, con un riff de guitarra asesino y que hace imposible que no te pongas a cantar al escucharla.
Y para acabar… si alguno no se había sorprendido con todo lo que pueden ofrecer, se marcan un último tema a ritmo de blues con ‘Here we go (Out of Control)‘, tema en el que destacaría dos partes, una primera en la que el ritmo es más suave y pausado y que me recuerda a The Doors en sus notas e intensidad, y una segunda, en la que los chicos se vuelven locos y que destaca por un riff que se podría haber marcado al piano el gran Jerry Lee Lewis, o a la guitarra el incombustible Chuck Berry.
Hasta el momento el grupo está consiguiendo gran popularidad en Asia, especialmente en Japón, donde los nipones se han vuelto locos con estos chicos de Suecia, una locura que, de seguro, se disparará y extenderá con el tour por Australia que están preparando para los meses de Febrero y que les llevará a Sydney, Camberra y Wollongong. Lo dicho, un disco cojonudo al que sacar mucho jugo y al que es imposible no poner una nota de 9 sobre 10.

We had our chance to know Jesper Lindgren when he was playing for the band ‘Pure Faith’, when in an interview with our magazine he made it clear that he was ready to take on the world and stay for long, after several years working, and some strokes of bad luck, he created his current band in 2013, with he playing guitar and Jonas Erikssson (vocals), Niklas Eriksson (bass) and Tobias (drums), ‘Velvet in Sane’ was born, and with it began his new stage.
Recently they released their first EP, entitled ‘Youth of Fire’ and, it really is something that burns you since the first listening. It’s an album that, overall, highlight to gather a bit of rock n ‘roll 70’s, a touch of punk and a good shoot of glam rock 80’s.
The first clip, which names the disc, is ‘Youth on Fire’, with an intro and an powerfull guitar solo, where Jesper set the rhythm all the time and with a energic chorus and catchy choruses, the album continues with ‘Get Ready’, that makes you travel right to the 70’s, is a song that particularly makes me think of Misfits, especially by the voice of Jonas and the touch that gives the drummer.
After these first whiplashes, the band leaves us to take a breath with the ballad ‘When Fate Has Come’ theme that bring to our mind ‘Every rose has its thorn’, though, when I asked about this to the guitarist , he said me ‘It may be … the truth is I do not know Poison, I’ve never heard them’ which surprised me, but it makes me think that all good songs can have things in common. In ‘When Fate Has Come’, the swedish devote space to the southern rhythms and it’s impossible not to imagine yourself at a concert, surrounded by lit flares, while the band plays in dim light on stage.
But not think that the band had lost steam after this little break, they return to the fray with ‘King of the Foolish’, another awesome song that make you feel the seventies and an instrumental part worked fine. If you are a Lep Zeppelin’s fans will not leave you indifferent, the guitar instantly remind us of the great Jimmy Page.
It follows the hard rocking ‘The Devils Prowl’, one of my favorite songs on the album, so catchy as previous and with a murderer guitar riff, that makes it impossible not to sing while you are listening.
And, finally, well … if you weren’t enough surprised with all that the group can offer, they give you a final song to the rhythm of blues with ‘Here we go (Out of Control)’, clip where you can see two parts, the first one in which the pace is slow and soft and reminds me of The Doors in his notes and intensity, and the second one, where the guys go crazy and noted for a riff that could have been played by the piano of the great Jerry Lee Lewis or Chuck Berry’s fireproof guitar.
So far, the group is getting popular in Asia, especially in Japan, where the Japanese have gone crazy with these guys from Sweden, a madness that, surely, will be bigger and extend with the tour of Australia, that they are getting ready for February and that will bring them to Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong. That said, a helluva disc that you gonna enjoy a lot and it’s impossible not to set with a note 9 of 10.
