Este es un viaje a toda velocidad y sin frenos de descenso al infierno que vivió Steve Adler y el resurgimiento 20 años después con la lección aprendida. Esta es una de las mejores autobiografías que he leído jamás. No sólo el ex batería de Guns’N’Roses tiene mucho que contar si no que lo hace a quemarropa, sin condescendencia hacia sí mismo –se define en este período como un capullo egoísta- ni buscando quedar bien con nadie, de una manera tan sincera, inocente, divertida y amena que es imposible mantenerte al margen.
En él se describe a una persona alocada, temeraria, fiestera, alegre, extrovertida, agradecida y apasionada de la música con una necesidad de mantener la adrenalina alta, de mantenerse siempre ocupado, y de recibir constantes muestras de cariño.
Hablar de Guns’N’Roses le lleva gran parte de las páginas, desde ese proyecto que comenzó a rondarles cuando regaló a Slash su primera guitarra, siendo adolescentes, hasta que le echaron del grupo en 1990 por consumir drogas. En medio de ello, los encontronazos con Axl Rose –memorable el episodio de la bandana perdida- mientras los demás miraban hacia otro lado, las orgías y los grandes momentos sobre el escenario.
Nacido con una tendencia a tener mala suerte, le acusaron de provocarle una sobredosis a la novia de Axl Rose, de maltratar a una novia, de alojar a un violador y asesino, y de incitar al suicidio a una amiga. After getting deep in the underworld, if you want to keep on putting together a band that follows the clichés, welcome to the jungle, baby.
This is one of the best biographies I’ve ever read. Not only the drummer of Guns’N’Roses has plenty to tell but he does it point blank, without condescendence towards himself –he defines himself as a selfish asshole- not looking for pleasing anybody, in a sincere, innocent, funny, and entertaining way you can’t stay away from.
Here you’ll find a crazy, fearless, fun loving, joyful, thankful and passionate about music individual with a need of keeping the adrenaline high, of staying active, and of being showed love.
